============

The protocol files in this directory are for use with scientific and
astronomical CCD cameras manufactured by Santa Barbara Instruments Group (SBIG).
They depend on the proprietary library that is in the libsbig directory of this
version of xmccd.

The software has been tested with several different models of SBIG cameras
including the ST7, ST8, ST9, ST10, STL1001, STL6303, and STX16803. It supports
the SBIG filter wheels for these cameras. We expect that the software will work
with any current "legacy: SBIG camera that is supported by the driver but we
cannot test all of them since we have had only have these camera types at our
facilities.

The new line of Aluma SBIG cameras have a different Linux USB interface
requirement are are not included at this time because the SDK has not been
released, and because we do not have one to test. However, Aluma cameras offer
a network wireless option which is platform-independent and will be a promising
possibility once the API is made available.

We will have a Python-based program for handling the STX using the Ethernet
interface because that is a more flexible way to run the camera. For research
uses, the Aluma cameras with back-illuminated E2V sensors, and the the STX
camera with the large 4kx4k On-Semi (Kodak) sensor, are our focus for current
and future support. Suggestions are welcome.
